2021 Winter Neighborhood Event!

Have you wondered who lived on your street 100 years ago? Who were they, where did they work and what did they do for fun in 1921?  What was North Alexandria like 100 years ago before it became Old Town North?  You'll find out about our rural, African American, and industrial past and learn how city history and archeology shaped today's beautiful neighborhood. We invite you to join us for:

The NOTICe Time Capsule: 100 Years Ago in Old Town North

This unique presentation will be presented LIVE via Zoom on Thursday, March 4th at 7pm as our annual Neighborhood Winter Event and Member Meeting. We are excited to welcome archeologist and lecturer Pam Cressey as our Special Guest. Pam retired as Alexandria's City Archeologist in 2012, after 35 years. Alexandria Archeology is recognized as the first city archeology program in the country. Pam’s groundbreaking work has enabled the City of Alexandria and Office of Historic Alexandria to document and interpret its history over hundreds of years. She will discuss Alexandria archeology in Old Town North and its oral history project, featuring Virginia Knapper who lived in the OTN Cross Canal area in the 1920’s. NOTICe President and amateur genealogist, Mary Harris, will host the evening and introduce you to some of Old Town North’s residents in 1921 - 100 years ago.

This free event is open to all our neighbors near and far and you are not required to be a member of NOTICe to attend!
